Louis Vuitton is the fashionable woman’s first port of call for red carpet gowns with a point of difference - see Michelle William’s peachy frock and Lucy Boynton’s intergalactic gown at the Golden Globes earlier this month - but the latest string it’s adding to its bow is a little more surprising. The French maison has just acquired the second-biggest diamond in the world.
The Sewelo, 1,758 carats, unearthed in a Botswana mine in April last year and reportedly worth millions, is second in size only to the Cullinan diamond, 3,106.75 carats in its rough state and now divided among the Queen’s crown jewels. To put these numbers in perspective, Victoria Beckham's pear-cut engagement ring is (a mere) 17 carats; Kim Kardashian's is marginally bigger 20.
The million dollar question? What is Louis Vuitton planning to do with the diamond? We’ll have to wait and see.
