They say all good things must come to an end, and the time has come to say goodbye to one of the most loved film-meets-fashion unities. Tomorrow, 1 February, marks the release of the final collaboration between Loewe, the Spanish fashion house best known for its craft-centric and artistic approach to fashion, and Studio Ghibli, the award-winning Japanese animation studio.
Having already worked on collections based on Spirited Away and My Neighbour Totoro, Loewe has become famous for morphing characters into clothing and accessories, making sell-out (and collectible) hits in the process. This last instalment celebrates the cult classic Howl’s Moving Castle - an adventure story that involves sorcery, moving homes and fantasy environments…If you haven’t already seen it, we beg you, go away and watch it instantly.
What’s more exciting than this collab is that Selfridges is giving you a real-life immersive experience to mark this moment in its pop-up corner store in London.
You can enter The Cloud Room, where you’ll find original Studio Ghibli sketches, a behind-the-scenes view of the campaign and the opportunity to learn about the Loewe artistry that goes into the Howl’s Moving Castle bag. From there you can have a feast within the Calcifer’s Kitchen, conceptualised by French culinary studio Balboste at the department store's Dolly’s, or sit down and watch the Studio Ghibli films at The Selfridges Cinema.
As we say goodbye to this beloved collection, be quick as if history repeats itself this is likely to sell out. And fast.
