When it comes to the red carpet, Lea Seydoux always looks incredibly chic. It has something to do with being Parisian and something to do with being the face of Prada, but a lot of credit also goes to her stylist of five years, Camille Seydoux. If you've clocked the surname, yes they are sisters too.
Lea has been reigning supreme over best dressed lists this months thanks to her Spectre promo tour wardrobe. It all started when she hit the red carpet at the world premiere in a gold and silver sparkling Prada gown.
Camille spoke to Grazia about what it's like to style her sister and the work that has gone into her Spectre promo tour wardrobe over the past six months (yes, we said six)...
Grazia Daily: When did you start preparing her Bond promo tour wardrobe?
Camille: "So I started preparing it during Cannes Film Festival in May. Lea is the face of Prada and so every gown she agreed to wear for Bond is custom made for her by Prada and Miu Miu. I began to look on the internet and magazines to know what I wanted to do. So I started to have the idea of the gold gown in May."
**Grazia Daily: **What was the idea behind the gold Prada gown she wore to the world premiere?
Camille: "I was inspired by two things. The first was Carey Mulligan when she wore Prada at the Met Ball. I liked the idea of the mix of showgirl and gold, and you don’t know exactly what is the colour, is it gold or silver? Is it a mix? So I told Prada that I loved, loved what Carey Mulligan wore, and I wanted to have the same effect. And so he told me, “I'm going to think about,” and we talked during Cannes. And then I was also very inspired by an old French movie from the 60s or 70s. There's a long dress with no back - she’s almost naked, you can see her bum. And I loved the idea of her backless dress."
Grazia Daily: When you started working on it in May was Lea involved or did she leave you to it?
Camille: "She can trust me - if you don’t trust the people you are working with it's kind of strange, no? So sometimes I try to not explain the idea to her and then when I have the sketches I show them to her. I know what she likes. You need to trust your idea at first, and have your idea sorted in your mind. She doesn't work in the fashion industry so sometimes she doesn't really understand the sketch. She'll say “can you explain to me exactly the fabric and everything,” so I say “yes, it’s going to be amazing, try to imagine the hair and the makeup..."
"I'm older than her and I was very protective her even when we were kids.
Grazia Daily: What can we expect from the rest of her promo tour wardrobe? Will it be similar?
Camille: "No. She wore this amazing gold dress, then she wore a white dress from Alexis Mabille, a young French designer. Then she wore a Audrey Hepburn inspired Miu Miu gown, it was grey with embroidery. I try to do something not expected. Lea is such a chameleon. She can be very sexy, but also fashion forward. So you’re going to see a lot of different things"
Grazia Daily: How does it work being both her stylist and sister?
Camille: "I'm older than her and I was very protective her even when we were kids. When it's your sister you do things you wouldn’t normally do. You talk more - we talk about the dresses when we are with family. I’m always honest. But maybe you’re more direct with your sister!"
Grazia Daily: Do you have quite similar styles?
Camille: "We have quite similar tastes, but not similar styles. I understand what she likes. Because I grew up with her, we have similar tastes, that come from our mum. I think I prefer fashion than her, she’s more boyish than me. I’m more girly than her."
**Grazia Daily: Does she ever tell you what to wear? **
Camille: "No. No! And I never say anything about her style. I say “Lea it’s your style, it’s your life,” I’m not that kind of sister, you know, like, “I don’t like your taste, or why did you buy these shoes, I don’t like them.” It’s only when we work together for the red carpet. Lea is very feminine on the red carpet, but she’s kind of boyish in real life. She likes to keep it simple jeans and a leather jacket, she doesn't like to walk in high heels and she doesn't wear a lot of makeup. Her style on the red carpet is completely different to real life."
'If I talk too much about dresses, she’s like, “oh, please!”
Grazia Daily: The Bond premiere was huge! How do you try to keep her relaxed when you get ready?
Camille: "Our family was all there with her before. When she was was getting prepared she was drinking champagne with all the family. It was a really nice moment with the family, in the hotel room, ordering food from room service. She was calm and was enjoying the moment. I think she was more nervous before, but now she's started to like it and play the red carpet game, you know?"
Grazia Daily: Are you trying to make her look like a Bond Girl on the red carpet?
Camille: "Yes I love love love the Bond girls in general. That’s why I chose gold. Her part in the movie is important, she's really part of Bond’s life. So I wanted her to have an impact you know? I always try to match the looks to the movie. Like when we did the promotion for Blue Is The Warmest Colour she wore blue. I’m inspired by her work.
**Grazia Daily: Is there anything she doesn’t like wearing? **
Camille: "She likes to look feminine and she always like to have a waist. She’s a curvy girl, she’s tall, she has boobs, she has curves. She doesn’t like to show too much skin, but she likes to be feminine in an Old Hollywood way."
**Grazia Daily: ** **When you’re not working do you try to not talk about work? **
Camille: "We are normal sisters, so we talk about life, we talk about boyfriends, about family. We talk about what we want in life."
**Grazia Daily: During the promo tours it must be quite stressful, do you manage to have time off together? **
Camille: "Yeah we went for dinner in Amsterdam and we have wine and fun. We don’t talk all the time about the dresses. She doesn’t like to talk about it all the time. She likes to focus on doing her interviews and her work properly. If I talk too much about dresses, she’s like, “oh, please!” I make everything the best I can - but you need let it go. It’s not her job to be on the red carpet, it’s to act. But you need to play the game."
