An ultra-impressive lineage certainly doesn’t hurt 24-year-old artist Langley Fox (she's Ernest Hemingway's great-granddaughter and model Dree's sister) but her innate sense of indie coolness is all her own work. The Winona Ryder lookalike lives in LA’s ‘hipster’ hood Silverlake with her cat Jack Skellington and regularly 'grams hers and Jack’s kitty-filtered existence. Cats aside, it’s artist and model Langley’s offbeat, vintage-infused, maverick attitude to accessorising that we’re really hooked on. So we caught up with the well decorated Ms Fox...
Lesson one: Mix your metals
Thought less is more? Pffft. Langley’s daily ensemble features at least 20 pieces of mixed metal jewellery. 'Oh how I love my jewellery!' Langley says. As well as a slim nose ring and a tangle of silver necklaces, Langley’s hands are a total party: silver knuckle-dusters jostle alongside semi-precious cocktail rings, whilst delicate, thin gold bands worn both high and low on the finger, pepper her digits. 'I really think I love all my rings equally', she says. 'I'm a huge fan of Pamela Love and Meredith Kahn's Made Her Think line [which she is also the face of this] and I'm getting into ManiaMania's stuff, too. I keep on the little half rings all the time, but remove the rest when I sleep, shower or draw'. Stick to silver and gold rather than bright colours, to avoid looking too shouty.
Lesson two: Get your jewellery tattooed on
Langley has eight tattoos by LA tattoo artist Dr Woo, including a small anchor at the base of one thumb. She also has a three-strand brown bracelet half way up her lower arm and a matching black one on the pinkie of her left hand. Basically, if you dare to tattoo rings and bracelets onto your person, we say do. We won't be following suit as we're massive wimps but it looks awesome.

Lesson three: Break out of the beanies
Shock news: ribbed hats that look like wormy condoms are not the only headgear in town. Langley is rarely without her wide-brimmed hat, putting it with dangly earrings and an artfully touselled, rough cut lob. 'I have a wall of 9 hats so far in different styles, some western felt cowboy shapes, some bowler hats and one basket weave. I wear them most days. Right now my two favourite are my "Indiana Jones" hat that I got at a thrift store where I think it was originally bought at Disneyland. My other favourite is a Minnetonka hat that I customize with a velvet bow.' One of Langley's favourite stores, Free People, has a good selection.
Lesson four: Make vintage your BFF
There’s a strong whiff of the nineties about Langley’s grunge-infused person. Think vintage floral dresses, leopard print, tartan shirts, battered leather jackets – and a pencil behind her ear. 'Leopard and plaid are best both apart and together, you truly can't go wrong. I like to find things in LA at the Fairfax flea market on Sundays and a vintage store in Los Feliz called Squaresville.' We really want to go to somewhere called Squaresville, but until that's possible, Urban Outfitters and ASOS Marketplace are good destinations for oversized tartan shirts and we think you can probably still get pencils in most newsagents.
**Lesson five: Beetlejuice stripes work best with red lipstick **
You can kind of tell that this chick's a part-time model – 'I'm not opposed to doing more modelling as long as my art develops as well' – if not for those feline looks, then for her great on and off-duty style. Langley's failsafes are her crop tops and Beetlejuice skinny jeans (try these from Yayer). As is bright red lipstick like MAC’s Ruby Woo.

Lesson five: Ditch the dependable black tote in favour of a fun-loving clutch
'I look towards classic style icons like Mick Jagger, Patti Smith, Audrey Hepburn and a young Winona Ryder,' Langley says of her awesomely eclectic style. Langley’s a big fan of her Olympia Le Tan book clutch – which The Debrief would totally be toting if it didn’t cost £1,048 – and has been known to fashion a handbag out of a lunchbox tin (she’s got good GSOH, this girl). Like Langley, we love a clutch with lols: try Shrimps’ faux fur Grayson clutch; a transparent Klear Klutch; or save up for Edie Parker’s fabulous, pearl-effect flamingo box clutch.
