Lady Gaga Wore Schiaparelli Haute Couture To Perform At The Inauguration Ceremony

It was suitably theatrical.

If you're Lady Gaga, a woman known for some fairly jaw-dropping outfits, how do you even begin to decide what to wear for one of the biggest performances of your career? That was the question Gaga did indeed face when she was asked to perform the American national anthem at Joe Biden's inauguration ceremony. And in true fashion, she did not disappoint. In fact, Gaga almost stole the show in a custom Schiaparelli Haute Couture creation, designed by Daniel Roseberry.

The look included a navy cashmere jacket and a skirt in washed red silk faille, that was almost too big to make it down the steps. A gilded dove of peace was pinned to Gaga's jacket, a nod to the theme of unity which Biden had requested for this inauguration.

Of his creation for Gaga, Roseberry said: 'As an American living in Paris, this ensemble is a love letter to the country I miss so dearly and to a performer whose artistry I have so long admired. Maison Schiaparelli is honored to have this chance to dress the iconic Lady Gaga on this historic Inauguration Day. God Bless Lady Gaga and God Bless America.'

Having previously worked alongside Thom Browne as head of men's and women's collections, Roseberry took the helm at Schiaparelli in April 2019. He became the first American to lead a French haute couture house, saying at the time: 'It is my great honor and my joy to pick up where Mme. Schiaparelli left off some 85 years ago. Schiaparelli was a master of the modern; her work reflected the chaos and hope of the turbulent era in which she lived. Today, we find ourselves asking similarly big, identity-shaping questions of our own: What does art look like? What is identity? How do we dress for the end of the world?'

With such questions feeling more pertinent now than ever, Roseberry was clearly the perfect choice for Gaga.
