Lady Gaga Proposes To Herself On Valentine’s Day

Does anyone remember that episode of Sex And The City when Carrie gets engaged to herself? It goes something like this. Carrie goes to friend’s house, friend asks Carrie to take off her shoes, Carrie’s shoes go walkabout, Carrie’s friend refuses to pay her back. Until, that is, Carrie ‘registers’ at Manolo Blahnik. The act constitutes, as our protagonist puts it, ‘One giant step for me, one small step for single-womankind.’

Whether or not Lady Gaga’s a fan, yesterday she followed in Carrie’s footsteps, proposing to herself on Valentine’s Day. That’s right. The actor and singer posted a picture on Instagram of her ‘badass ring’, designed by her friend Bea Åkerlund for Klarna, and it’s already got more than 400,000 likes.

The caption read: ‘Did you know that an old tradition says that only during a leap year, on Feb 29th, are women allowed to propose to men? 🤦‍♀️ It’s 2020, and any person of any gender identity can propose to anyone, anytime! So as we all celebrate love today, I put this ring on my own finger as a sign of my love for myself and for my fans - and a reminder that we are all born superstars. 💕 #getwhatyoulove.’

The ring in question, the so-called ‘Knight Finger’, stretches from knuckle to tip and is made of gold vermeil and crystal stones. All that’s left to say is congratulations.
