We are in the age of the ‘fun’ bag (not to be confused with your ‘funbags’, girls.) From Edie Parker’s bespoke hardshell clutches (Aussie Victoria’s Secret supermodel and her boyfriend, Greek shipping heir Stavros Niarchos, gifted Poppy Delevingne a ‘Mrs Cook’ version as her wedding present) to Anya Hindmarch’s technicolour normcore Frosties, Rich Tea and Daz tassle clutches, to Olympia Le-Tan’s literature box clutches – ’tis the time for haute novelty goods.

So we’re not surprised that on the streets of New York, we spotted a few Olympia Le-Tans and a textured, round smiley-face clutch bag that is literally a doppelganger for the patent leather rucksack we had aged 10 and which we are now gutted to have since junked.

You don’t have to spend a trillion dollars to get yourself a fun(ky) purse. Here are some of the best on the high street.

Doughnut Clutch Bag, £9.99 New Look at ASOS; Spongebob Grin pouch, £125 Moschino at Selfridges; WAW Beaded Canvas Small Bag, £115.52
