In just a few short years, Kerby Jean-Raymond has become one of the most exciting designers currently working in the fashion industry. Pyer Moss, his own label, was established in 2013 and has developed a loyal following thanks to the stories told by the clothes – Jean-Raymond is adept at blending fashion and activism, establishing a point of view that is as original as it is important. Now, he has been appointed as vice president of creative direction at Reebok, where he will oversee design strategy and global marketing initiatives.
Posting the announcement on Instagram, Jean-Raymond wrote: 'Every time an interviewer would ask me what else I’d want to be a creative director for I would never say, but in my head it was always a footwear brand. Gotta shake shit up a lil yuh know? Thank you @reebok. I haven’t had a job in 9 years, so please get me a lunch box.'
The designer has been working with Reebok for a while on special collaborations, as well as taking the role of artistic director for Reebok Studies_, a venture pitched by Jean-Raymond himself in order to develop new creative talent.
We'll have to wait to see what Jean-Raymond creates for Reebok as the first products won't be available until 2022. But if his statement on Instagram is anything to go by, we can expect big things. 'To my Reebok fam. There's a lot of work to do. Can our mindsets collectively evolve to serve the future? Are we inclusive enough? Are we bold enough? Are we challenging tradition enough? Are we ready to unlearn? It's going to be difficult. I'm ready though.'
