Next year will mark the 20th anniversary since Princess Diana’s tragic death and in honour of the late royal, Kensington Palace have announced a special exhibition.
Diana: My Fashion Story will showcase her love of fashion with original sketches by designers who regularly created sartorial pieces for the princess.
These will be on display alongside garments spanning across the decades from her iconic blue tartan Emanuel suit to the evening gowns she wore to royal engagements in the 1980s.
And the pieces on display will each tell a story. We can expect to find everything from the velvet Victor Edelstein gown she donned when dancing with John Travolta in the White House to the iconic pink Emanuel blouse she wore for her engagement portrait by Lord Snowdon in 1981.
Curator of the exhibition, Eleri Lynn, told The Evening Standard, "Diana, Princess of Wales, was one of the most photographed women in the world, and every fashion choice she made was closely scrutinised. Our exhibition explores the story of a young woman who had to quickly learn the rules of royal and diplomatic dressing, who in the process put the spotlight on the British fashion industry and designers.
She continued: "We see her growing in confidence throughout her life, increasingly taking control of how she was represented, and intelligently communicating through her clothes. This is a story many women around the world can relate to, and we hope many visitors will join us next year, to get a closer look at some of Diana’s most iconic outfits, on display in her former home."
The exhibition will open in February 2017 and will be held in Kensington Palace and gardens, where the princess spent 15 years of her life.
