As part of online fashion destination Shopbop's new #HolidayHowTo Christmas campaign, actress and street style icon Kate Bosworth embraces the art of staying in - and with loungewear this good, we can see why.
From luxe silky pyjama sets (which could just as easily be worn to step out in - if it's good enough for Kate, Victoria Beckham and Gigi Hadid then we're certainly on board...) to oversized sweaters in cosy cashmere via one show-stopping evening dress (because who says staying in has to mean dressing down?), this is off-duty dressing 2.0 - and we love it...
Check out the stunning campaign and learn from Kate's off-duty style secrets below...
How does your off-duty style differ from your day-to-day style?
Off duty tends to be more comfortable... looser silhouettes, more “boyish." I was a real tomboy growing up, riding horses and generally being very physical. At home, I now wear the Levi jeans my husband wore in college, for example. They are very well worn and well loved. I adore denim. It’s not only functional and durable, but it can take you from day to night, casual to more dressed up, very quickly and efficiently. On the whole, I don’t spend a ton of time on myself, so short cuts like this are key to getting ready.
And how about occasion dressing?
Getting dressed up, I tend to gravitate towards well tailored pieces that give a bit of shape, but that still have a relaxed ease to them. No matter the occasion, I always like to feel comfortable and confident. If something feels forced, I never wear it. I love fashion because it is a physical expression of a feeling.
What did you love about the pieces you wore for the Shopbop shoot?
I love the variety. The idea of being able to host a dinner party in beautiful silk pajamas, or cozy up in cashmere in a reading nook, or slip on a sexy red dress for a date night. All the clothes were very indicative of my style in different ways so it all felt effortless and fun.
What are the keys to throwing a successful party at home?
Laughter! Good food, good drinks, and good people.
You have such a distinct signature style. How do you keep fashion interesting for yourself?
My father worked in fashion all his life, as did his father. Fashion and quality of fabrics and textiles was instilled in me at a very young age. I have a serious appreciation for the work that goes into this process and ultimately, the pieces themselves. It’s amazing to understand that something was created from nothing - from concept to deliverables. What a time to be involved in fashion! We are surrounded by truly brilliant artists and I am deeply intrigued to discover what their work, from season to season.
What's your favorite piece of style advice to give (or the favourite you have ever received)?
My father told me - 'Always remain classic. The trends will come and go, but to remain classic, you will stand the test of time.'
