It’s never too early to think about coats, especially not when they are designed by J.W. Anderson and cost a mere fraction of what you’d expect. This September the British designer will be debuting his first collaboration with Uniqlo, and it’s everything we could hope for.
The 33-piece range is the best of both labels, taking J.W.’s bold, unisex aesthetic and mixing it with Uniqlo’s smart fabrics and functional fabrication. The result is rainbow striped scarfs crafted out of HEATTECH and feather-weight tartan down puffa jackets with ribbed cuffs.
‘For me, the point of doing this collaboration was that I believe in democracy in fashion, and what I hope will be achieved is that any age demographic can pick up and find something within the collection to relate to. Doing something with Uniqlo is very interesting. It’s a different exercise than with J.W. Anderson, because we have a wholesale network whereas Uniqlo is a retail network. It means you come up with a wardrobe which is universal and quirky,’ the lauded designer said.
The collection is a checklist of autumnal favourites, all painted with the designer’s take on British heritage. There’s tartan linings and cable knit sweaters, trenches and duffle coats and jackets that at a speedy glance could be a Barbour priced at a reasonable £14-£139. Though the pieces are affordable, items like the padded bags, don’t shy away from incorporating the J.W. Anderson's famous anchor iconography.
The collection will go on sale on September 19th in store and online.
