Vetements, the brand behind the tracksuit collab with Champion (which was trailing for a cool $1,000 plus) and their famous bright yellow DHL branded t-shirt which stole the SS16 show, is becoming one of the most talked about labels:
After deciding to show their main collections in January and June rather than Paris Fashion Week in March and October, they had their first appearance at Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris over the weekend. For the collection they collaborated with 18 brands such as Carhartt, Levi’s, Reebok and Comme des Garçons. Not quite the usual Haute Couture crowd (which literally means 'high sewing'), it's true.
Clothes were awkwardly sized with perhaps over-long arms and short legs. Manolo Blahnik boots weren’t just knee high: they were waist heigh. But what seemingly stole the shoe was the return of the Juicy Couture Velour tracksuit complete with a rhinestone 'Juicy' on the bum. But this wasn't your average JC tracksuit: they were all in ones, with sleeves that turned into long, velvet gloves and the odd one-shouldered top half.
But does this really spell the return of the noughties Juicy Couture tracksuit? And is that even what we want? Here’s some highlights from years passed whilst we all ponder that.
1. Charlotte Church
When bad clothes happen to good people.
2. Britney Spears
Prerequisite to Juicy Couture tracksuit wearing was brown lensed, frameless sungalsses, preferrably with a rhinestone in the corner.
3. Geri Halliwell
She nailed it.
4. Lindsay Lohan
The scarf and flipflops though. This is my absolute fav.
5. Kim Kardashian
Teeny tiny clutch bag obligatory.
6. Paris Hilton
Is this actually a Juicy Couture tracksuit? Not sure. Does it matter? Absolutely not. We know Paris was the Queen of JC.
7. J Lo
Remember the time she wore the pink short version in the I'm Real video, too?
