John Lewis has announced the launch of its first ever luxury ready-to-wear womenswear label, Modern Rarity, which will arrive in stores on 8th September.
Presenting a more considered alternative to fast fashion, the 90 piece collection comprises statement pieces such as sequinned skirts and printed blouses, and timeless wardrobe classics: a £900 shearling coat, wide leg herringbone trousers and relaxed, oversized knitwear.
Each season, the brand will invite guest designers to bring their signature style to the collection. For the launch, Modern Rarity has teamed up with design duo Levi Palmer and Matthew Harding of palmer//harding. Best known for their sharp, modern tailoring, the pair have created five white shirts, priced from £100 to £150.
The pair commented, 'For a high street retailer to create a brand with this standard of design and quality is a truly rare thing - we're really pleased our shirts have a part to play in this as it feels like the perfect fit.'
Jo Bennett, head of womenswear buying at John Lewis, revealed: 'To shape the Modern Rarity label, we set off with a mantra of 'fewer, better pieces,' with the knowledge that our customers are wanting quality pieces that have design substance. We wanted to create a brand that could cater for everyday modern classics in a luxe way - pieces that are thoughtful, beautifully designed and crafted with care.'
