Did Dr Jill Biden just deliver a not-so-subtle riposte to Melania Trump? Appearing yesterday in Cornwall, where she and her husband met with Boris and Carrie Johnson ahead of the G7 summit, Biden chose to wear a polka dot dress (from Brandon Maxwell) and a black jacket with one word emblazoned on the back in rhinestones: 'LOVE'.
The internet immediately put two and two together, drawing comparisons between this jacket and the infamous 'I really don't care, do u?' jacket worn by Melania Trump (otherwise known as the most miscalculated fashion choice in history of American politics). Although she later insisted it was intended to send a message to the left-wing media, the fact that she wore it to visit a centre for children of migrants who had been separated from their parents was interpreted as a tone deaf decision at best and a chilling one at worst.
Answering a question from CSPAN, Biden said that the jacket had a very simple message, summarising how her country plans to approach the next three days of talks at the global conference. 'I think we're bringing the love from America.' We wonder what else she packed...
