So despite the fact that Lorde's on the cover of Canadian glossy FASHION Magazine (dubbed 'The Age Issue' rather interestingly) in an opulent Dolce & Gabbana gown (the price is on request, so you* know* it's haute) she says inside that she'd choose a tux over a gown, any time.
'Jackets and pants are my power clothes' she explains of her love for the suit. 'I agree with Annie Lennox when she said, 'wearing a suit is like wearing armour.' I wore pants and a shirt at The Grammys because it made me feel confident' she says, chiming in with our own Sophie Wilkinson who recently wrote about her penchant for 'size-less' menswear. A lot of my stage clothes are suits, jackets and trousers that come from designers like Philip Lim and Stella McCartney. I'm a fan of Celine and Comme des Garcons too because the clothes don't look contrived* and* they don't look like they are trying too hard.'
Given how highly informed Lorde has already proved herself to be on a number topics, it's no wonder she knows her fashion. And who are her muses? Well Lennox, obviously. And 'I remember looking at early photos of Patti Smith when she was wearing those men's shirts she chopped off at the sleeve. That, to me, is the strongest look in the world.'
And whilst her BFF may be the most successful female artist of the moment, Taylor Swift, Lorde's obsessed with another lyricist. 'Author Tobias Wolff is my hero. In terms of creating perfectly formed sentences and paying attention to word selection - Tobias Wolff is awesome.' Firstly, we're now off to read This Boy's Life again. And secondly, did you ever expect anything less than Lorde?
