Meet The Retired Emo Making Accessories That Reads Millennials Minds

Sometimes you find a song, a piece of art or a book that speaks to you, now meet the brand that does the same. Called Jac Vanek, it’s a Californian company that’s really nailed the millennial state of mind.

The label speaks in memes and spells out our shower thoughts. It makes sassy, affordable t-shirts, clutches, mugs, homeware and stationery. Personal highlights include a travel cup that reads: ‘Currently experiencing life at a rate of 35 WTF’s per hour’, and a phone case that says: ’My patience is dying faster than my phone battery.’

Jac Vanek, the founder of the brand, began her internet journey like many of us: blogging. In the early days of the internet, she found peers via LiveJournal (remember that site?!) and quickly learnt the World Wide Web’s distinctive language of hashtags and quips. After catching wind that her sense of humour was well perceived, she started making statement bracelets before expanding into clothing, accessories and home goods. Back when her digital journey began, in 2007, Jac was a self-proclaimed emo – I mean weren’t we all? – and though she has since moved on to a manic pixie dream girl phrase, she’s definitely kept her emosh wit.
