We've seen sportswear make its triumphant rise to fashion stardom, and underwear that's worn to be seen has been a thing for-like-ever, so it was only time before the two trends should meet, as seems to be the case with the number of sports bras we've been seeing in more stylish circles on Instagram.

At the shows in New York and London, this meant the full on gym-kind, finding a new lease of life as a statement piece with dresses and tailoring and looking far more exciting than it ever has under a running vest. There've been plenty of subtler jersey crop-tops around too, proving that this might just become your favourite new layering piece, even if just because it's as comfortable as a hug.
Here's how some of our favourite Insta-snappers are wearing them...
Get your 90s Gwen on
Remember when Gwen Stefani made sporty crop-tops and baggy trousers look like the coolest thing ever in the mid-90s? Even if you don’t, you’re just a tumblr search away from finding out why it’s a look that’s most certainly worth revisiting, which is presumably how Johnny and Vanessa’s fifteen-year-old daughter Lily-Rose came to style this bubblegum throwback. Do as Gwen did and counter the sport-on-sport aspect of this outfit with a load of lipstick and jewellery.
Dress up gym-wear
As into this sports bra trend as we are, there’s no getting around the fact that underwear that has been known to be emblazoned with ‘shock absorber’ is unlikely to be the prettiest thing in your lingerie collection, but worn under this nip-waisted pinafore dress, blogger Hanneli Mustaparta cuts some seriously feminine style. It’s an unexpected pairing that only serves to emphasise how much it ends up working – like Lara Stone and David Walliams. This rules also applies to wearing a silk cami with a sports bra.
Calvins and denim are best friends forever
Now, we’d wholly suggest you put some pants on with this look, unless of course, like Italian It Girl Eleonora Carisi, you too are re-creating a Corinne Day shoot in your living room, but do make sure the branding on your knickers is visible above the waist band of said pants and that they are a pair of light blue 90s jeans. Calvin Klein underwear and denim were made to be seen together, as per Kate Moss and Mark Wahlberg in those iconic adverts, so there’s no better friend to a sporty CK bra-top than an open denim shirt.
Power dress a power body
If, like Brooklyn based fashion blogger Camilla Vivian Mayer, you’re the lucky owner of the kind of abs that look like you eat sit-ups for breakfast, you’d want to show them off too and a totally simple jersey crop does nothing to steal their lime-light. A bight red jacket only enhances the power vibes, while the simplicity of the whole look screams, ‘I woke up like this’. Achieve a similar effect with less time at the gym by going for loose but high-waisted trousers.
