A jacket without sleeves; aka a 'waistcoat'. This is the jacket that you want in your trans-seasonal arsenal. Whether it's rendered in denim, leather, cotton, silk or camel hair (you never know) it's workin' for us. Here are some bitching ways to wear one, as plundered from Instagram.

The double breasted

She wears it well. A pale pink double breasted and buttoned sleeveless jacket is de-girlified with some polarised sunglasses. Nice work, as ever, Leandra Medine.

The gingham

This sleeveless duster coat is given a sporty feel with an Adidas t-shirt and will also work nicely over a knitted poloneck.

The textured

Unique and rather beautiful this is - where did she get it? We can but know. Look for a textured cream one and wear it over white t-shirts. Until it gets too cold (wah - etc etc.)

The leather

Don't be afraid of a sleeveless leather biker. It doesn't have to be all ageing rock star. Look for a clean cut and wear with equally clean side parted pony like pint-sized US blogger, Olivia.

The denim

Retro made modern by blogger, Charlotte. Frayed arm holes are key, as are a slick cross body bag and sunglasses. You could, of course, pair it with frayed flares a la Marques Almeida. But, if you do, just a word of warning that that might be a little too high fashion for the pun.
