If you're stealth enough to continue to resist tights until at least when the clocks go back, then socks and shoes are your gateway drug between an unexposed foot and a fully covered leg.

Showing your socks has had a confused fashion history - there was the white socks and loafer thing Michael Jackson did, which was cool for like, five minutes in the 80's, but then felt as not quite right as the man who championed it. But now they've risen like a phoenix from the ashes to become a standard look among the fashion set, not least at the recent SS15 shows where there was barely a toe in sight, but plenty of open-toed shoes.

Birkenstocks have made a triumphant return to our weekend wardrobes over the last year, and this look proves there's no reason to pack them away now the sun's gone.
