Instagram Styling Tips: How To Rock Some Work-Appropriate Shorts

Palm tree print can work - but denim cut-offs not so much

SHORTS

To make shorts work-applicable, the key is not only in the length – but in the hem. Frayed denim cut-offs, not so much. But high-waisted, flat-front shorts? Totally doable, even when they’re verging on indecently short.

For this week’s instalment of Instagram Styling Tips, here are five ways to style them for work in this long hot summer.

Monochrome always works

It’s a golden oldie: white shorts with black blouse and vice versa. You could get away with micro shorts, provided the outfit sticks to a monochrome palette. Only issue is that that background might not quite look like our office. Sigh.

Try an unususal colour

A mustard shortie co-ord: works now with bare legs and nude pool slides and as you can see here, later with tights and a black fuzzy gilet.

Leather can work in hot weather, too...

.... just pair with a simple white shirt to make it more day than night, like Scandi blogger Trine.

Jungle print doesn’t scream ‘holiday’ when you inject some camel

Ah, camel. The Palermo of the colour wheel – and by that we mean endlessly classic and often a tiny bit too chic. It’s far from predictable when you pair it with some leaf-print shorts. And, the leaf print shorts leave their holiday roots behind when paired with a white sweater and pea coat.

And gingham! Don’t forget gingham

Doh, like you could. It’s one of this summer’s hottest prints. Totally adorabubble with kitty flats, and actually looks nice as pie with black Chelsea boots and bare legs, too. Very Kate Bosworth.
