Pleated skirts are the toast of the skirt scene right now. From peachy pastels to bi-chromatic, to mini to midi, they've had their biggest second wind since Carrie Bradshaw's multi-coloured striped one. (You know the one).
Here are some styling tips stolen from Instagram to nail the trend this summer.
Sharpen the pleats
Blogger and stylist Pernille Teisbaek showcases Zara's hero piece of the season, the black and white pleated midi skirt. A palette of black - tee, sunglasses and Celine slides - give it a sharper take on pleats.
Nude on nude
Blogger Camille Charriere buys into the nude trend, with some seriously successful tonal blocking. Look for ballerina coloured staples, to combine with a sloppy sweater.
Go sporty
Blogger Lucy Williams takes a sports luxe approach to pleats with a athletic trim waistband and a cropped, rib knit sweater.
Sheer lady
The partly sheer pleated skirt is a common trope in the world of pleated skirts - an opaque mini skirt is inserted under a transparent midi skirt, so that a subsection of the pleated skirt is see-through (typically below the knees, for modesty.) Dress it down with ankle boots and a sweater, like Aussie fashion buyer Shalini Papas./
Intro slick pattern to de-girly the pink
A bubblegum pink pleated skirt is surely the sugariest treat of all. But not when paired with checkered courts and a black cropped top. The slickness pulls the girliness right back.
