Cheeky, irreverent and slickly cool, Illustrated People has been silently slaying it for a while. But, yesterday when creative director Phoebe-Lettice Thompson dropped an Instagram of the Brick Lane-based label’s dynamic new spring summer 17 collection that all changed.
While big fashion houses stick to the formula of ornate sets and contorted models, Phoebe-Lettice and photographer Olivia Richardson composed a refreshingly simple campaign of smiling, laughing girls against a mustard colourama.
Sticking to the streetwear style the line is best known for, this season sees camo cargo pants or striped trackies paired with hoodies and polo necks. Boob tubes and t-shirts come printed with tongue-in-cheek slogans like, ‘I feel like fries’, ‘Romeo’, ‘Strange Thing’ and ‘Where are all the cute boys at?’.
Last year Illustrated People’s collaboration with stylist Violetta Fancies You was a veritable coming out for rising model and daughter of Jude Law and Sadie Frost, Iris Law. In keeping with tradition, this new campaign features a diverse cast of new faces. For instance, Daily Mail fodder and Rocco Ritchie’s squeeze 16-year-old Kim Turnbull takes centre stage. Alongside Kim are up-and-comers Yasmin Pigeon, Coal Kwayie, Leah Abbott (who you'll recognise from Skepta’s Shutdown video), Izzi Godley, Camille Munn and Sabreena Diamond. As ever with Illustrated People, remember those names as you’ll surely see them everywhere by this time next year.
