Maybe you’ve taken advantage of all those bank holidays and been on amini-break by now. Or maybe you’ve just dug out last summer’s dusty bottle of St Tropez because, well, everyone else has been and you’re feeling sun-starved enoughwith this frankly very sterotypical British summerwe’re having right now.
Either way, it’s a truth universally acknowledged that some things in your wardrobe look better with tanned legs. We won’t pretend that it’s rocket science. Bronzed legs mean you can wear your skirts and your shorts again and generally flash your pins (as the Daily Mail would say.)
But here’s a few ways to make it work new-season style.
Off for some netball?
But add some fugly shoes. We know, socks with Birks? Looks the opposite of try-hard with some silver shorts and an oversized marl V-neck tee. Oh, and waterproofs are coming back.
Shiny Sun Short, £34 American Apparel Men; Orange Nylon Bomber, £13 Rokit; Grey Vest, £8.75 Forever 21; Crocodile Effect Leather Sandals, £145 Senso at Harvey Nichols; Retro Boot Sock, £18 Falke
Believe in the hype
Hawaiian meets street with Hype’s T-shirt dress, which gets some old-school nostalgia with a pair of Reebok High Tops. Layer a sleeveless dress underneath for added interest and a pair of frilly socks to stop your ankles from getting cold.
Floral T-Shirt Dress, £29.99 Hype; White Embossed Mini Dress, £30 Bill + Mar; Classic Leather Trainers in White, £60 Reebok Classics at Urban Outfitters; Girl Frilled Trimmed Ankle Socks, £7 John Lewis
Try a sassy workdrobe
Pencil skirt, T-shirt, backpack – so far, so work-ready. But what if the T-shirt was leather? And the boots were open-toed bovver boots? And the backpack was shiny silver leather? This is hot.
Sabella Skirt, £207.82 D.Efect; Leather Airtex Shirt, £75 StyleStalker at ASOS; Rascal Cleated Peep Toe Boots, £120 Out From Under at Urban Outfitters; Varsity Rucksack, £295 Whistles
Actually, just be sassy full stop
Does this not make you wanna hit the dancefloor? Sometimes all you need is a super-short LBD and a pair of strappy sandals to go out and party. Just make sure those legs are tanned to the hilt.
Mesh Overlay Dress in Black, £95 UNIF at Urban Outfitters; Elvie Sandals, £75 Miss KG at Kurt Geiger
