Ever heard of the saying- dress for success? You may not be aware of how much your wardrobe can really affect your career. It's not as if your social life and career would go down the drain if you don’t look absolutely stunning all the time, but if you slack off and don’t take pride in your appearance, then you may make things harder for yourself.
If you haven’t been putting in as much effort in lately, mixing up your look is one of the easiest ways to boost your image and improve your social opportunities at work. Even on those days when you just feel like binge-watching Netflix; your clothes can do the hard work for you, by telling the world that you’re a confident, capable person. So here we go. Let’s hit ‘refresh’ on our wardrobes, and in doing so- our careers!
Know Your Environment
Your workplace will sit somewhere on the spectrum of casual to formal. If you work amongst suits and ties, you’re going to have to get on board with smart, business wear, (even if you’re not a big fan of it.) Dressing down may be comfy, but you don’t want to give off the impression that you’ve not in the same league as your co-workers, (yes, people can judge you on that.) The same goes for the other end of the spectrum. If your work-peeps dress quite casually, join the tribe and don some jeans and a simple blouse. But you can still put your own unique twist on everything! When in doubt- go for smart casual.
**Add A Touch Of Colour **
When it comes to your wardrobe, it’s easy to gravitate towards greys, blacks, and whites, as they’re easy to co-ordinate. However, there’s nothing wrong with adding a touch of colour to your look, especially in the warmer months. If you’re not crash-hot on dishing out extra cash for a momentary seasonal trend, you can still perk up your work day by incorporating other colourful bits and pieces. Think funky desk gadgets, bright accessories and vibrant snacks and drinks to put a skip in your step. Stroll down to a Starbucks and grab yourself a Starbucks Teavana Peach Green Tea Lemonade. After that, watch how a simple treat can brighten your workday.
Is It Flattering?
Know what looks flattering on you. You don’t have to embrace new trends just because everyone else does. It’s good to experiment with your style and try new things, but there’s no use spending cash on a maxi-dress or a high-collared shirt if it’s not flattering to your figure. If you’ve nailed your personal style and you know what works for you- keep it going!
