Whether it’s a pink pussy hat or a Dior t-shirt, sartorially pledging your allegiance to the feminist cause has never been easier. We’ve lost count of the number of fashion pieces emblazoned with the words ‘feminist’, and the latest to garner hype comes courtesy of New York brand, Alice & Olivia. A mesh black and white midi, the skirt comes with ‘feminist’ embroidered in sequins.

A hit with the A-list, following Olivia Wilde’s appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen in the skirt last year, Helen Mirren has now been spotted wearing the conversation starting style.

For a visit to the SiriusXM Studios in New York, the Oscar winner paired the item with a fuschia pink knit, a leather bomber jacket and biker boots. Eschewing a slip for the pair of built-in-shorts the skirt comes with, Mirren proves that sheer fabrics can be worn at any age.

An ardent feminist, Mirren has been outspoken about women’s rights at many points throughout her five decade career.

‘I’ve always lived my life as a feminist, I’ve always believed in all the theory of feminism without a doubt. I loved people like Germaine Greer and I loved what they were saying, but I was the kind of feminist that wanted to wear high heels and lipstick and that wasn’t on in the late '60s. You couldn’t be a feminist and do that kind of thing. Well you can nowadays, so I’m a modern feminist,’ Mirren told The Hollywood Reporter last year.

Costing £320, you can shop the skirt yourself here.
