Like Calvin Harris’ first big hit, Fall 17’s Haute Couture Fashion Week was an ode to the ‘80s. Continuing from last season, where the Thatcher and Regan era was resurrected at Balenciaga and Gaultier, this past week has been a non-stop roller coaster of shoulder pads and Princess Di ball gowns. Talk about, fashion getting political.

Rewinding the clock to 1987, Alexandre Vauthier clothed his PYT’s in metallic lame fit for Studio 54, slouching boots and enough costume jewellery to weigh down Pat Butcher.

What happens when Boy George’s make-up bag takes the Eurostar to Paris and makes a pit stop at the Chanel archives.

One look at Ellie Saab and you can see someone has been binge watching GoT. However, that said, between the layers of bangles, glitzy embellishments, glitter eyeshadow and sizzling eveningwear, I have my suspicions that Dynasty has also been on repeat.
Giambattista Valli

The voluminous skirts made out of balletic tulle and the waterfall hemlines that skimmed the thighs were a lesson in old school dressing-up.
Rodarte

We’re going to level with you, this isn’t actually an Haute Couture collection. Rodarte hijacked the week to show its achingly sweet Spring 18 collection. Like a dance with the late Princess Diana’s bouquet of Ivy, Lily of the Valley, Freesia’s and Gardenia flowers, the collection was doused in the loveliest and most delicate of blooms.

It looks like someone has been Pinning pictures of Madonna’s Like A Virgin video to their moodboard. While we’re on the topic of the 80s, anyone else see how closely the shoes resemble Dr Martens?

Somewhere between Working Girl’s wardrobe and the 1940s sits Dior’s Haute Couture separates.

White boots and liquid velvet polo-necks weren’t the only hint that the 80s revival is in full swing.
