One of the most talked about moments of Milan Fashion Week this season was undoubtedly when Gucci’s Alessandro Michele sent his models down the runway carrying life-like replicas of their heads as accessories, flaunted very realistic third eyes, or even rocked horns growing from their foreheads.
But what started as something quite creepy has ended up turning into a bit of an ongoing joke with the Italian front row set, who have been posting pictures of their own take on the Gucci show on Instagram – and specifically, the idea of carrying a head as an accessory.
It all started with W’s contributing fashion editor and Grazia cover star Giovanna Battaglia Engelbert, who shared a picture of her pretending to hold her sister Sara’s head under her arm with the hashtag #GucciChallenge. Next, she asked artist Maurizio Cattelan to pose with her, as she showed she was really getting into it.
Taking on the challenge next was street style favourite Anna dello Russo, who used a replica of her own head, one-upping Engelbert. She wasn’t upset though – posing with both Dello Russo and her ‘head’ in another funny snap at the same party. From there, the challenge really took off, with various Milan partygoers sharing their own hilarious takes on spring’s hottest accessory. Here are some of our favourites below…
