Gucci has been making headlines thanks to a pair of black tights. That might seem like an unlikely sentence in a world facing an ongoing pandemic, a fraught US election and a vital campaign to extend free school meals to ensure that over 1.4 million children won't go hungry but here we are. 2020, ladies and gentlemen!
Diet Prada was the first to highlight the hosiery, posting an image of the tights with the following caption: 'To whoever paid $190 for these @gucci pre-ripped tights... r u ok? #RippedInItaly.' Commenters were quick to mock Gucci, with several people suggesting that they were going to DIY their own versions.
This was quickly picked up by the tabloids, who reported on the story and, in turn, received some fairly, er, passionate comments on their own websites. Interestingly, the tights are sold out online, despite the £146 price tag.
These tights are just the latest in a series of items released by brands that seem a little baffling. Converse, for example, launched 'dirty' trainers for £90 in the summer and a few weeks ago, there was much discussion around Ralph Lauren's paint-splattered overalls, which are incidentally still available for £620.
So, will you be setting alerts in case the Gucci tights are back in stock soon? If all else fails, you could attack your black opaques with a pair of scissors...
