The rumour mill went into overdrive last week after a media report emerged on Friday that indicated the runway royal, Gisele Bündchen, would be making her final catwalk appearance during Sao Paulo fashion week this April and waving goodbye to fashion land.

However it looks like there have been a few crossed wires. A representative at IMG has insisted the information has been ‘lost in translation’. No official statement has been made from Gisele herself, and therefore no concussions should be drawn on her behalf. Well…we can still speculate.

But according to her sister and representative Patricia Bündchen the rumours are indeed true! Patricia confirmed that the Brazilian supermodel will indeed be retiring to ‘focus on special projects and also spending more time with her number one priority: her family.’ N’aww.

The mother of two, who is married to American football player Tom Brady, has certainly scaled back her catwalk appearances in recent years, and has since turned her talents to advertising campaigns for the likes of Chanel, Balenciaga and H&M along with being a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations. But will Sao Paulo be the last time the runway royal hits the catwalk? Apparently not.

A source explains “ Gisele made no statement. The truth of the matter is that we still have a very strong relationship with several international brands for which [Gisele] may have to do shows – special projects- in the future. It’s true that she doesn’t do fashion week; she doesn’t do 17 shows in all three cities, and she’s not going to start. But that’s not to say that she might not work in a special project in the future. The world retirement is a bit of an extreme word.”

Confused? Us too. It’s all a bit of a mystery to be honest. But seeing as Gisele was most recently spotted prancing barefoot on the banks of the river Seine in Paris for the Chanel Spring 2015 campaign, our money’s on the French powerhouse remaining to be one of her ‘special projects’. Well, you wouldn’t say no to Karl, would you?

It’s also worth noting that the 34 year-old Brazilian beauty has been the world’s highest paid model for the last eight years and has ruled the runway for the past two decades. If you can’t pick and choose your projects after twenty of modelling, then when can you?

Hats off to you Gisele, we reckon you’ve earned a break.
