Getting To Third Base With A Complex Topshop Tiered Dress

This Topshop Boutique dress makes me think of mimosas. And, that’s a good thing. It’s a tall drink of sunshine and an electrifying burst of warm positivity. But, on the hanger it looks like a hell of a lot of hard work to pull off. Between the drapes of fabric and the flossy ties, this frock screams: ‘high maintenance’. But is it? I put it to the test.

How’s it fit?

In two words: surprisingly well. The soft flutter of the satin ruffles hide a multitude of sins and the asymmetric cut makes my legs look taller. Win, if you ask us. However, bras are a total no-go with this piece and knickers need to be slim-line unless you’re chill with a VPL.

Will the colour suit me?

I wasn’t sure if this would wash me out or give off a warm glow. While there is no doubt that this would suit someone with more melanin than me, a pale person can definitely get away with this acidy colour. I’d suggest keeping your make-up minimal because it’s so bright and captivating no lipstick can compete.

Was the devil in the details?

Up close the fabric justifies the credit crunching price tag. While just looking at it causes wrinkles, it fluidly drapes over my bumpy bits in a way no stiffer textile would be able to. The delicate roulean tie waist and bows at the back are feminine without being saccharine.
