Sick Of Boho? Courtney Trop’s Summer Style Is Pure Rock Chick

Californian style is about so much more than Coachella - as this awesome chick shows

She's blonde, tanned and SoCal-dwelling, but that's where the California clichés end because blogger Courtney Tropis more unique rock chick than boho beach bum. With her peroxide blonde hair, strong brows and ubiquitous red lip, there's a lot of the Courtney Love about her. And while her labels draw heavily from LA's strong fashion scene, the key is in the compilation – like all great fashion wits, Courtney compiles her ensemble in a super-fresh, slightly badass way.

So here's what you can dissect from her look.

Keep the silhouette simple, but the components full of flavour

A shirt-dress, sunnies and some plain white plimsolls – so far, so uneventful. Right? Except when the shirt-dress is checkered like a mathematical man's shirt, the bag is a narrow pouch made of snakeskin and the sunglasses are round and in tangerine orange acetate. Look for unexpected twists on regular classics.

** A sheer tea dress doesn't have to be girly**

Courtney's a paid-up poster girl for one of our favourite LA brands, Reformation, but she injects a different attitude to its suede fringed jacket and sheer ivory tea dress, thanks to black boots, pop socks and a chunky black Chanel Boy bag.

Take your cue from the wild west

Courtney's a big fan of the fedora and this teal number is a great version for summer (try in raffia for a lighter take.) The lace-up Equipment shirtand studded, pointed boots by Scandi-born, LA-dwelling blogger/designer Anine Bing makes for a western hippie rocker.

Don't forget your roots, though

You can take the girl out of California... but even if you did, she'd still be loyal to her denim shorts. Courtney adds interest to hers with this super-frayed star-strewn micro pair and a conceptual trench. She then simply adds her signature statement sunglasses and silk button-down, which adds a chic and classic note to all the quirky casual basics.

Be the off-the-shoulder grunger on holiday

Grunge is a big influence on Courtney – see her hair – and her summer wardrobe references the 90s with plenty of sexy floral dresses like this off-the-shoulder one by cool US brand Stone Cold Fox.

Pare back the 70s

A beige billowy Chloé blouse and some snakeskin accents steal the best bits of the 70s and updates them. The piece du jour? The full-length white dungarees (oh, and the ever-present red lipstick).
