On the top floor of a London office building with a view of the city’s landmarks and the designer’s adorable dachshund scampering around, Markus Lupfer presented only 13 looks. While slight in number, they made an unmistakable impact. What made them so intriguing? He presented the case for footless tights. If it were still 2005, we wouldn’t even blink at this. But, it’s not, and this contentious hosiery has been absent from fashion for nearly a decade.
Sitting shy of the ankle, these throwback tights were worn under flared midi skirts and poking from beneath dresses. While we may not have expected to welcome these amped up leggings back into our life so soon, they make a strong argument. Most importantly, under a party dress, they don’t carry the same weight as 100 denier tights, but they retain the warmth. Naysayers have relegated them to the #indieamnesty pile, but we’ll be wearing them this autumn without a touch of hesitation.
