It’s the end of the month. You’re eating toast and watching The Hills on Netflix (remember when Olivia Palermo was just a jumped-up intern? Remember?) But you still want something new to wear on Friday night. Or Wednesday night. Goddamit, you just want something new!
Let us introduce you to the £10 transformer – which is natty Debrief speak for ‘something cheap which reinvigorates your outfit’. Here are five accessories costing below a tenner, to check in with before payday hits.
Warning: do not buy all five. That is not cost effective. You only need one. OK?
The single feather earring
‘One? Why are you wearing only ONE?’ asks your mother/boyfriend/brother who is far from au fait with the earring, singular. But with tons of luxe jewellers like Ryan Storer and Delfina Delettrezproducing the one statement earring (think of it as a natural segue from the ear cuff), they’re totally a thing. Try a single feather – as seen on super-cool model Ruby Aldridge. Two would be too much/very Vanessa Hudgens at Coachella. But one? Randomly cool.

The printed scarf
You can wear this as a wristlet, a bandana, a neckerchief, hell even an* anklet* – so it’s not only cheap, it’s multi-purpose. Keep one in your handbag, so you can whip out your £10 transformer with a flourish and use it to adorn your person in any of these ways.

The body chain
Don’t look so scared. You don’t have to be Ri Ri to pulloffone of these(though it’s true, it does help.) Neither do you have to be hard-bodied and clad in skimpy swimwear either. Wear a delicate gold body necklace over a simple white tee, or a cotton slip dress, for an unexpected twist.

The waist cincher
It may be small, but a patterned belt can change the gear of your outfit immediately. Wearing a plain black dress? Try Topshop’s stretchy raffia belt, which is now on sale – it will totally change the silhouette of your outfit as well as inject a bit of bohemian joie de vivre to your sartorial proceedings.

The athletic socks with a disco twist
Ribbed old school athletic socks have been trending all summer – but what about a glittery pair? They’re like a pair of Gola trainers from the 80s, with the anticipation of a disco always just a hint in the horizon. Wear them pulled up high with a pair of flatform Superga and a denim mini. Too cute.
