Janice Litman Goralnik was one of Friends' unsung heros. Whilst the main six sat around, drank coffee, skived work and complained about their relationships, Janice was a go-getter. She got Chandler back six whole times in the space of four years, She got married twice. Her nails were always impeccable. Janice knew what she wanted and she went for it.
This was totally reflected in her clothing too. Oh my, her clothing. Even the 90s can't mask some of the spectacular clothing Janice wore. Let's take a look at some of her most wonderful offerings and what they meant.
1. Airport Chic
Janice knows a thing or two about sending your boyfriend off to a faraway country. When Chanandler Bong accidentally moved to Yemen, Janice got exactly the right amount of sassy (hello leopard print) and sombre (dishevelled hair, a subtle reminder that her world is falling apart) to see him off at the airport. And do you know what? It worked, sure she got back with Ross not Chandler but hey.
2. Janice Soprano
Here is Janice asserting her authority through the medium of clothes. She's got that whole gold chain and 90s sportwear look down to a T. Tony Soprano would be proud. Can Chandler break up with a woman like that? Can he hell. Sign him up for four more years in the Janicesphere.
3. It Was Acceptable In The 80s
This was in 1996. Janice had no business wearing those Cindi Lauper earrings in 1996 and yet, here we are. Nice work Janice, two fingers up to the fashion establishment for trying to make you live inside their strict capitalist contraints of 'trends' and 'seasons'. Janice, my friends, is a lone wolf.
4. Co-ords Are Key
Here Janice showed off her wildly progessive fashion sense. Not only did she manage to pull off the perfect co-ord (very 2016 bbs), she also has a palm print bag that I'd give my left boob for. House of Hackney? Nah, more likely a cheapy from one of the sketchy market stalls in Queens. Absolute bargain.
5. Can I Have This Coat?
Srsly. Anyone?
6. Chanel-o
Coco Chanel might have created the concept of this cardigan but it took Janice to add a real touch of class to the classic twinset and pearls look. For those unable to grasp how she did it; it involves layering car boot sale gold jewellery over car boot sale gold jewellery. If you think you've got too much on, add more. Just like Coco Chanel hereself said.
7. Animal Kingdom
Sometimes, it's hard to choose which animal you're feeling like. Is this more a tiger day? Or a leopard? Perhaps you're feeling timid like a bunny. Who knows, as a woman, it's your prerogative to chop and change how you think, feel and act. Janice knows this, that's why she's combined all three animals in one top. That's #feminism.
