Fashion East has a seriously impressive back catalogue – with Jonathan Saunders, Richard Nicoll and House of Holland all being grads of Lulu Kennedy’s fash school. Every season there’s high expectations for who the show will bring, and boy, did this one not disappoint.
There were two new designers, Caitlin Price and Mary Benson, premiering on the London Fashion Week schedule, joined by a returning Ed Marler, for a showcase held at London’s ICA gallery (one of our favourite places in London, in case you wanted to know).
Here were the three things we saw and liked:
1. The FKA Hair
We’re slightly obsessed with how you get your hair like the girls at the Caitlin Price show (also known more widely as FKA Twigs hair). Anyone know how? Anyone? The ghetto superstar models wowed in satin trac suits hanging well low below the hip bone, with thongs on show (we hate to break it to you, low slung is back – and we fear this means our prediction about the mons pubis may also be right. FML.), along with a collection of Nikes that would make Miss Dynamite proud.
2. The Bowie Facepaint
Mary Benson’s was a collection focused on 70s punk glam. With diamond prints, neon pops and flared shapes – it took us on a little psychedelic night trip (without the come down the next morning). Our fave bit? The girls and guys’ fun circus face paints – from starry eyes to glitter noses – this will surely translate to festival fields this summer.
3. The Alabama Worley Sass
Think leopard, this tassels, think red shine and lace negligées. Think Alabama Worley from True Romance crossed with erm, Del Boy, and you’ll have pretty much got Ed Marler’s collection down. Having graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2013, this new collection from Ed was gusty and busty (sorry). In short, we loved it.
