The country is waiting with bated breath for the Royal Family to announce Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement. Rumours have been circling for months that marriage is most definitely on the cards and that it’s just a matter of time before we can all start celebrating a Royal engagement.
If you just can’t wait to see what style of wedding the happy couple will have then we have an expert prediction of what style of wedding cake will be featured in this upcoming Royal wedding.
Marie Sinclair, designer at GC Couture, Purveyors of luxury cakes London, shares her predictions of what Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding cake could look and - more importantly - taste like.
‘When it comes to the cake design, I think the happy couple will go for something stylish and elegant. Meghan’s dress sense is timeless, classic and understated and I see this sense of style coming through in her wedding day and therefore her wedding cake. I also believe she will give a nod to English tradition and opt for round white tiers adorned with a beautiful array of cascading flowers.’
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have come from two very different worlds - she’s a California born actress who has spent her time between LA and Vancouver and he is a British Prince who has had a very traditional Royal upbringing - but he also has a touch of fun and warmth to his personality. It would be wonderful to see these influences come together through in their wedding cake - perhaps a traditional fruitcake tier along with a simple vanilla sponge and perhaps even a red velvet tier with plenty of frosting - an American favourite!
‘Here at GC Couture we have added a modern twist the the traditional fruitcake - the fruitcake without bits, so you get all the depth and flavour of a traditional fruitcake but with a smooth more sponge-like consistency. I think this would be a perfect choice for Prince Harry and Meghan - honouring tradition but with a contemporary twist.
‘The wedding cake is no longer the only sweet treat served to guests at many weddings, indulgence bars have been a long popular wedding trend in the States and we think this is an American wedding tradition that Meghan is most definitely going to want to embrace.
‘We’ve seen indulgence bars - or candy tables - increase in popularity in the UK over the past couple of years but if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle choose to have one at their wedding then they will definitely be a trend that sticks around for many years to come.
‘I also predict that Prince Harry will follow in his brother’s footsteps and choose to have a groom’s cake. A groom’s cake is typically a fruitcake and is a British Victorian tradition but in recent times it is more popular in the States - making it a perfect choice for Prince Harry and Meghan’s big day. Prince William chose to go against the traditional fruitcake for his groom’s cake and instead opted for a chocolate fudge flavour. I think Prince Harry will be just as daring with his flavour choice and perhaps go for something a little more unique such as coconut and lime or strawberry and champagne.’
One thing we know for certain is that no matter what cake the couple chooses it will kickstart a wedding trend that will be felt globally!
