After endless unpicking on Meghan Markle’s Givenchy wedding dress less than a month ago, you would think I would have had enough of bridal wear. At least for 2018. But, then I saw a picture - a blurry Instagram story that flashed by too fast for me to fully take in - of what Danish model, mother, journalist and Balenciaga-muse Emma Rosenzweig (née Leth) wore at her nuptials yesterday and now it’s all I can think about.

Weddings by and large are strange affairs that induce anxiety in any singleton attendees and remind guests of [patriarchy's grip on fundamental aspects of marriag](https://graziadaily.co.uk/life/real-life/wedding-traditions-rituals-origins-sexist-sexism-feminism/)ee){href='https://graziadaily.co.uk/life/real-life/wedding-traditions-rituals-origins-sexist-sexism-feminism/)e' target='_blank' rel='noopener noreferrer'}inism/)e. Does the bride still need to be given away? Does the groom need to ask her father’s permission? So much of the ceremony and the pomp is outdated, yet this Danish TV fixture and Copenhagen fashion week favourite found a way to navigate this funky space and carve an entrancingly chic path. She waved goodbye to the veil and said hello to a Jacquemus hat and in the process rewrote that famous walk down the aisle (which FYI she did alone).

The bride wore white - surprise! - but it was by no means a traditional dress or even a traditional ensemble. Under the wide lolling brim of a Jacquemus sunhat (undoubtedly the must-have accessory of the summer), Emma sauntered down the aisle wearing a lace dress so sheer her lilac underwear shone through. Negating conventional cream satin pumps, the bride wore polka dot heels.

The fashion clues are here. The impact is instantly felt. In other words, the peek-a-boo fabric and shielding floppy hat signal something ethereal and paradoxical. There are some muses, like Chloe Sevigny and Loulou de la Malaise, that have name recognition outside the shirt tails of the fashion industry, and then there are some, like Emma whose star quality hasn’t dented the wider spotlight. Yet, she is no less amusing with her sartorial leaps and no less fascinating as she cements herself as the ultimate non-traditional bridal muse. Move over Angelina Jolie and make room Solange for Emma Rosenzweig is here.
