When Kate Moss joined Instagram two weeks ago and announced the details of her new modelling agency, we thought we might have to wait a season or two before her first protégés were runway-ready. Instead, her first female model signing, 16-year-old Elfie Reigate, made her catwalk debut at Paris Fashion Week last night, with an exclusive contract that most industry newcomers could only dream of.
Here’s what you need to know…
So she’s The Kate Moss Agency’s first female model signing
Kate announced that she would be representing Elfie just a week ago, a few days after confirming her first male model signing, Louis Baines. Flexing the Moss muscle, it seems, has paid off, as Kate and her team secured the newbie’s first major job within just five days of announcing that she was on their books.
Her first catwalk show was Alexander McQueen, SS17
Elfie’s first turn on the catwalk was in Sarah Burton’s fairy tale Alexander McQueenshow last night, in an exclusive booking that means she will only work with McQueen this fashion month. It’s a common tactic for agents who want to build hype around a new star – think about the times that Cara has walked exclusively for Chanel, or when Ruth Bell's career was launched by Burberry. Designers always want the models they can’t have, and next season Elfie will find herself inundated with offers.
Modelling is in her genes
The daughter of supermodel-turned-nutritionist Rosemary Ferguson and artist Barry Reigate, Elfie’s grown up in the art and fashion worlds. She has two younger half-sisters Bliss and Blythe (their father being the Turner-nominated Jake Chapman) and a little brother, Aiden.
She was Kate’s bridesmaid
You thought you’d seen that face before, didn’t you? Yes, Elfie was one of Kate’s 15 bridesmaids at her 2011 wedding to Jamie Hince, alongside Kate’s half-sister Lottie Moss, daughter Lila Grace and Iris Law, the daughter of Sadie Frost and Jude Law. Are this lot the Primrose Hill set 2.0?
Next up, her first campaign?
It’s inevitable, isn’t it? Expect to see Elfie next in a dreamy Alexander McQueen advertising shot or two, coming soon to a coffee table near you.
