If we needed any further proof that Kate Middleton is a world class style icon, then this is definitely it: fashion site Net-A-Porter has re-named a dress after the Duchess of Cambridge.
The Middleton dress, a knee-skimming tea-dress style with button detailing, capped sleeves and a slightly flared skirt, is currently available for fans of the Duchess’s signature style to buy on net-a-porter.com, priced at £2,150.
‘Dolce & Gabbana’s “Middleton” dress is named after the Duchess of Cambridge who wore hers on a recent visit to Canada,’ Net-A-Porter’s product description reads. ‘This forest-green crepe piece has puffed sleeves, a pretty bow tie and white buttons, evocative of styles from the 40s. We like how the stitched seams and raw georgette trims playfully emphasise the craftsmanship.’
The re-naming of the dress was not a decision made by Dolce & Gabbana, but rather by e-tailer Net-A-Porter, the brand has clarified.
Kate was first spotted in the dress in September last year while on the Royal Tour of Canada with her husband, Prince William, opting to wear the emerald design in Kelowna, British Columbia. A bespoke version of a runway style, it appeared in the Italian brand’s A/W’16 show earlier that year, which took playful inspiration from a clutch of fairy tales and fables. The original version featured an Alice in Wonderland-esque pocket watch motif: this does not appear on the new style, which is also available in cream with pearlescent detailing.
