It might only be midway through November, but hands up who’s already bought an advent calendar, cracked into the mince pies and watched The Holiday? The Christmas countdown is officially on and this year there’s another entry to add to a to-do list that includes ice skating, Christmas carolling, tree buying and mulled wine drinking. Dolce & Gabbana has brought the European tradition of Christmas markets to its New Bond Street store - and you’d be mad to not swing by during the season of goodwill.

The festivities, which kicked off at the end of October, are based around the Sicilian tradition of the caretto or cart. It’s usually two-wheeled and comes festooned with carved and painted patterns. These geometric designs in Christmassy shades of red, green, orange and yellow have been replicated, in typical Dolce & Gabbana fashion, over the walls and floors of boutique. It’s Santa’s grotto, but make it fashion.

But it’s not just the space that’s had the maximalist treatment. As part of its Christmas market, the label has created a special ready-to-wear collection, featuring the carretto patterns, as well as childrenswear, dolls, a new make-up line, two pairs of limited-edition sunglasses and panettone in the most amazingly patterned tins imaginable. The Christmas stocking options are limitless.
