If you haven’t been seeing lace up sandals on every chic celeb, fashion blog and runway of late, where you been guurl? If you're late to the lace-up party, a quick DIY can turn your old flats into a sex-ay summer staple.

We loved these sassy sandals from Dorothy Perkins, in on-trend suede with cute bow back straps that we used as the base for our DIY. For cheap but quality wax laces, Ebay is your bestie. Each pack gives you a pair of laces but we bought two...more on that later. You’ll also need a heavy duty hole punch for this DIY (woah woah woah, don’t be put off, it’s a steal at £2.49, is a DIY staple and next time you need an extra hole in your belt buckle…hello hole punch).

How to:

  1. To begin, find which hole punch will be the right size for your DIY. Pop your laces inside each hole until you find one that fits in easy, or is a tiny bit big, and this’ll be the perfect size for your sandals.

  1. Take your sandals and measure their width across the front. Once you’ve found the middle of your sandals, 1mm either side of this is where you’ll want to punch your two first lace holes. Pop a little dot in pencil where you'll need to punch.

  1. Repeat step 2 for the other 3 holes along each side, positioned as pictured. Pressing the hole punch firmly, make sure to stay on the same spot that you’ve marked. It may take a good few squeezes of the hole punch, as the suede can be tough. Repeat for all holes.

  1. Once all of the holes have been punched, thread the laces through the front, making sure each side is even. Keep threading the laces in a criss-cross pattern, ensuring the lace is kept as even as possible on each side. Repeat all the steps for the other shoe.

It’s as easy as that! You could use any old pair of flats that you no longer wear for this. We love the look of tying the excess lace around the ankle in a chic knot or a bow.

BONUS DIY TIME! If you want to go that extra mile, you will see on some of these lace flats, the lace up the leg just keeps on going!

If you did want to extend the criss-cross loveliness, just order another pair of laces, punch two holes as you did at the front of the sandal at the back, thread the laces through and use all that excess to criss-cross to your hearts desire!
