Sometimes a girl just wants pretty lingerie. Sure, Primark and Topshop can satisfy those needs without that hefty price tag, but what if you want something a bit more unique? Not to worry, lace lovers. I’ve got you covered.
You’ll need thick lace trim, elastic trim (for the band and straps), bra clasps, a needle and thread, and a pair of scissors. The measurements of the elastic will depend on your own measurements. For a small, the waistband will be roughly 24 inches, and the straps 15 inches. Remember, these will stretch. A sewing machine is optional, but will make things easier.
Place your pattern on the lace, with the scalloped sides positioned along the straight edge. You can get a pattern here, here, or here – or use your own bra to make it fit exactly the way you want. Leave a seam allowance of half an inch on the curved edge. You should have four pieces in total.
Sew along the curved edge for both pairs.
Cut the excess fabric.
Position the cups onto the band, slightly overlapping them. Sew.
Sew the clasps onto the ends of the elastic.
Position the strap in the centre of the clasp and cup. (Note: this pins are just for positioning, sew the straps on the inside of the bra, not the outside).
Sew the straps on.
Throw on your new bra and revel in your DIY genius. Or lip sync to Weezer. Whichever.
