Elie Saab is officially the fairy godfather of the red carpet. It seems like the one condition of being a live-action Disney princess is that you have at least one 'you shall go to the ball' red carpet moment in one of his magical designs.
This "method" appraoch to Disney promo tours all began when Elle Fanning promoted Maleficent by twirling her way around the world in dresses fit for Aurora. Her big 'princess moment' came when she wore a blue off-the-shoulder heavily embroidered Elie Saab gown for the LA premiere.
Lily James is the latest star to be a Disney princess IRL, and last night she finished her promo tour duties in Tokyo wearing an oversized pink Elie Saab gown. This is the second time Lily has worn Elie Saab, as she wore a grey gown with silver beading to the Los Angeles premiere with Louboutin glass slippers.
Lily has worn many princess worthy looks this month, from the pink Dior gown she wore to the Berlin Film Festival to the swishy Prada pale grey gown. Her stylist Rebecca Corbin-Murray explained to Fashionista that Lily really got into playing the part of Cinderella on the red carpet.
She said: "Lily is a tomboy in the way that she dresses normally, and she wasn't fully into princess-ing it up as much as we have. We saw after everyone's reaction from the first dress in Berlin that people wanted to see Cinderella, so we decided to do a switcheroo with the dresses and really went for that enchanted princess theme." She added: "Though it still has to register as her, it's playing a role at the same time."
The next star to be transformed into a Disney princess is Emma Watson, who is playing Belle in the remake of Beauty and the Beast. So will she wear yellow ruffles and blue ribbons in her hair? Something tells us Em is going to have a more minimistic approach to the whole thing - perhaps Alexander Wang will be her fairy god-father?
