We have been left in suspense ever since The Business Of Fashion rumoured that Christian Dior were going to appoint their first female creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, (appropriate name choice if you ask us).
And now it has been finally confirmed that Dior will appoint her as their first ever female creative director.
Chiuri will take the reigns from Raf Simons, who left the company in limbo following his departure in October.
Chiuri had been working as co-designer at Valentino alongside partner Pierpaolo Piccioli, and will now make history for women as the first female creative director in Dior’s 70 years in business. Piccioli will remain at Valentino as the sole Creative Director following Chiuri's departure.
And with that in mind, here's everything you need to know about Dior's new creative director:
-
Chiuri was born in Rome and studied fashion at the city’s Istituto Europeo di Design.
-
Chiuri met Piccioli whilst studying and they worked together after being appointed at the helm of Fendi's accessories in 1989.
-
She was responsible for this legendary Zoolander moment at Paris Fashion Week as she revealed that she's a fan of the 'blue steel'.
-
She doesn't just design fashion, she creates trends as she is the mastermind behind the infamous 'rockstud' shoe, coveted by celebrities far and wide. Valentino even saw a 36% boost in sales due to her creative vision.
-
She's responsible for dressing A-listers alike for red carpet appearances, including Keira Knightley and Kirsten Dunst.
-
Chiuri will take on her first ever solo creative role at Dior after working with Piccioli for 30 years.
We can't wait to see what she produces for her debut line this September...
