The jean genie is here, and her name is Grace Francesca Victory. Our resident expert can make even the scariest of teeny weeny denim miniskirts look slick and sophisticated. She takes the fear out of fashion and lifts the lid on the very easy way to make plus size high street denim look a million bucks. Listen up kids, because these are tricks worth taking note of…

Straight To The Point

Look1

Premium Shape & Sculpt Mid Blue Pencil Skirt, £35, Simply Be

I am wayyy out of my comfort zone in such a short straight skirt as I find they always gape at my waist and are too tight on the bum. Actual. Nightmare. But, with this wrap top and these sassy lace-up shoes, I think it works. It’s just about mastering balance and proportion.

Pleats Purleash

Hot Pink Balloon Sleeve Sweatshirt, £19.25, Simply Be; *Denim Pleated Skirt, £23.40, Elvi *

At first, I loathed – like actually hated – this skirt, but I tucked in this pink jumper, and it nipped me at the waist. Also, the length is much more flattering than I initially gave it credit for as I like the way it makes my pins look. Its waistband serves up Gucci vibes, so it makes me feel like a Fashionista too. I love the pop of pink on the jumper matching the trainers.

Wild For It

*Plus Khaki Green Distressed Stud Army Jacket, £25, River Island; Snake Printed Dress, £47.20, Elvi; **Denim Wrap Skirt in Mid Wash Blue, £22, ASOS Curve *

For this outfit, I tied up the longline shirt dress into a crop top as I like the way the v-neck and the buttons fall. I think it looks wicked with the khaki jacket. It’s quite hard to find an A-line skirt that fits properly, so I’m not sure I like it on me, but it works within the context of this outfit.

Silver Lining

*Textured Stripe Kimono, £95, Elvi Hayley Hasselhoff Collection; Foil Top, £17.40, Elvi; *Premium Shape & Sculpt Mid Blue Pencil Skirt, £35, Simply Be

High waist skirt, crop top and kimono and I’m done. It’s so flattering, comfortable and it’s something I’ve worn my whole life. While I like to wear trousers with a kimono as it gives a masculine touch to the feminine gown shape of the robe, but the skirt lets me show off my legs. Ideally, I’d buy the robe a size up so I can wear it oversized and wrap it around like a dress and team it with heels.

New Exposure

*Denim Wrap Skirt in Mid Wash Blue, £22, ASOS Curve *

I find the Bardot neckline the easiest style to wear because it shows off the chest and the shoulders, which I love about myself. It could be a nightmare to wear, but with the Curvy Kate strapless bra, everything stays in place. And, with the skirt and skater shoes, it gives this feminine look a bit of sass.

Show Some Flare

*Denim Jacket With Rips and Fluted Sleeve, £48, ASOS Curve; *Hot Pink Balloon Sleeve Sweatshirt, £19.25, Simply Be

Come at me flared sleeves. I love this raw hem jacket, it’s low-key casual but it has high-fashion aspirations. Plus, it’s super flattering on the arms and elevates my favourite black harem pants.
