Accessorising is hard. What ring goes well with your other ring? Can you wear more than one necklace at once? Is mixing metals really a faux pas? (Short answer: no.) So we decided to try answering all your jewellery queries visually, with a GIF guide for each specific ‘adornable’ area.

Finger Food

Mix your metals and your themes and be bold – can a snake ring work on the same hand as a delicate golden trident? Can a finger full of diamanté work alongside an even shinier silver knuckleduster? Uh, yes. Just keep bright colours to a minimum.

Décolletage Decoration

It’s the biggest flummoxer of all: how do you layer necklaces? Choose several fine gold or silver chains of gradually differing lengths (try a 14-, 16- and 18-inch length together). Or play up the space between them: try a choker with a longer pendant which nestles between your boobs. If you’re a jewellery wuss and need to start super gently, just opt for a couple of fine real gold chains from Argos – great value and they won’t rust should you be scared to ever change them.

Ear Armour

Multiple holes: worth the risk of ear infection when you can find ear candy this good. Forget cocktail earrings, look to darker statement earrings like spikes and snakes. For wear-everyday multiple earrings, try a sprinkling of tiny gold hoops with different detailing.
