If you check out the 'new in' section on most stores right now, when it comes to shoes, there ain't much action going on. There are a few new styles we're after, but the real key pieces haven't dropped yet.

So what do you do when you want new shoes and there aren't really any you're desperate to part cash for? You tap into the latest DIY-fash trend, and you update your current shoes with awesome little creatures like furry pom poms and the ultimate new craze - shoe clips.

Here are some clever crafty ways to update your shoes right now.

Pop On Some Pom Poms

Shoes, £140, Whistles, pom poms, £35, Cleo B

Check out these amazeballs pom poms from Cleo B, which come in different sizes, from cute little meatball size to giant mega puff ball size. They have tiny little clips on the back so you can pop them on and off every pair of shoes you own. Genius.

Add Bling To Your Laces

Superstar trainers, £64.99, Adidas at Office, socks, £5, Monki, feather lace dimes, £105, Daisy Knights, plus gold beads from your local craft shop

If you're looking to add a subtle bit of exciting-ness to your trainers, check out Daisy Knights's lace dimes - they're real gold - so not cheap, but they look the bomb. We souped them up with some extra dimes from a local bead shop that cost pennies, so you don't have to fork out for the real deal.

Get Some Incredible Shoe Clips

Slippers, £65, Topshop, shoe clips, £19, Etsy, socks, £4, Topshop

We stumbled across these awesome shoe clips on Etsy, but they're kind of a big deal everywhere right now - Topshop have been selling some jewelled versions recently, and Ebay is also full of cheap, imaginative styles. Pop them on when you want some added oomph to your regular feet.

Neon Up Your Soles

Sneakers, £8, available in store at Primark, plus neon paint from your local art shop

Look at how insanely brilliant these shoes look, and they cost just EIGHT POUNDS. Plus a tube of neon paint. Get yourself a brush and use a steady hand to sweep a stripe around the sole, before filling in underneath. Allow to dry properly upside-down before you go walking over your carpet.
