It hasn’t been the easiest year for Debenhams, once one of Britain’s best-loved department stores. It’s no secret that while a few fast fashion brands, particularly those of Love Island fame, have managed to stay afloat, and even prosper, the Great British High street chains have suffered enormously.
Debenhams was able to avoid closure with a healthy cash injection of £200million and new clothing lines have since been introduced in an attempt to breathe new life into the brand.
One such line is Kley, Debenhams’ own-brand answer to ‘Nu Minimalism’; think clean-cut lines, effortless everyday wear (or 'realwear' as Kley have named it) and practical separates designed by a female-led team. The brand is based upon four ‘L.I.F.E’ principles; Luxury, Important, Function, Essential. With this is mind, the clothing and accessories are set to stand the test of time. Designer Lucia Hefferman says “The collection is a combination of timeless wardrobe staples and ‘must have’ pieces offering items which we hope will be loved for years.”
Head of Debenhams Womenswear Design, Helen Low explained, "The colour palette responds to the trend for Nu Minimalism - simple, sophisticated and calm. Prints are accents rather than heroes" meaning that individual pieces in the collection can be mixed, matched and rotated on a day-to-day basis in your wardrobe.
Here just in time for us to stock up on back-to-school basics, we’re all for the affordable price points (£20 - £220) and must-have hero pieces including the dark blue leather coat, flared silk blouse and scarf detail knit jumper.
