Is it just us or has Dakota Johnson’s red carpet wardrobe got even more ravishing of late? Take the sequinned tuxedo jumpsuit by Saint Laurent that she wore to the 23rd Hollywood Film Awards on Sunday. In lesser hands it could have looked a little fading eighties pop star with those power shoulders. Dakota, however, looked pin-sharp, perhaps because she had a messy bun instead of a poodle perm and naked-yet-dewy skin instead of frosted eyeshadow.
The actor has always been a Gucci girl, but has branched out of late. Her two-piece from Brandon Maxwell at the Governors Awards was another savvy choice and a masterclass in how to mix it up on the red carpet. Instead of your traditional ball gown, she wore balcony bra top and matching meringue-shaped skirt, both in snow white, with a dark vermillion lip and wavy hair. Swoon.
Another favourite was Dakota’s choice for the Hollywood Reporter party in September. Her off-the-shoulder gown by Valentino shouldn’t have worked. It had a ruffle around the shoulders like a valance on a B&B bed and was the colour of an avocado bathroom suite. Did it work? Need you ask.
