Fashion trends come and go at such a rate that you’d have to be an Olympic athlete to catch up. But, the trick is to find the shapes that work on your body and integrate the hottest shade or the print-to-have via them. My advice: don’t try and do it all at once. Experiment with a fluted sleeve here or a ruffle there, and you’ll be dead set for victory.
How To: Rethink The Wrap Dress
I am not usually a fan of wrap dresses because I feel like they always put plus size people in them and just assume they are flattering. That said, I like this one, a lot! It’s not just because the bright pattern and colouring are pretty, but because of the shape it gives my body. With the back hem a little longer than the front it’s immediately much more flattering. And, this frock is really versatile – I’d wear it to a summer party, a barbeque, a wedding, anything!
How To: Master The Mini
Forever 21, Plus Size Floral Wrap Dress, Boohoo, £18; Boohoo, Plus Jemma Tie Flute Sleeve Bodysuit, £12
This number is quite short in the leg, and the neckline is very, very low, so I layered it with a higher neck top with fluted sleeves. While I paired it with tights, I think it is an easy item for transitioning your wardrobe from winter to spring. When it gets warmer, I’ll just scrap the tights and wear it with leggings and Vans.
How to: Pull Off Statement Sleeves
This outfit and this dress, in particular, is more flattering than you’d expect and that’s because of the giant sleeves. Not only are they really on trend and proper sassy, but they mean the short length and shift silhouette is put into balance. And, it’s easy to dress it down with Vans or up, like I have, with boots. I prefer it with a heel though as it makes me feel sexy and beautiful.
How To: Refresh Your Denim Jacket Addiction
If you haven’t realised by now, I love dresses, but to give it added oomph I have styled it with a statement oversized jacket with velvet corset ties. I love it because it makes the dress seem more on trend and it looks more expensive than it actually is. It’s proper sassy.
How To: Stay Chill On A Hot Day
I like to look good at meetings but also be really comfortable, which is hard when it’s hot, and you have to ride the tube. But, this cheesecloth material is airy and lightweight. Plus, the dress has a really beautiful detailed neckline, so it has a little something, something. I’ve worn it with Vans and leggings, so I’m not showing loads of leg in a work meeting.
How To: Wear Frills
H&M, Short Polo-Neck Top, £7.99; ASOS, Deconstructed Midi Skirt in Gingham, £32
Don’t be scared of a skirt with more ruffles than you know what to do with. I love this piece because it makes an instant statement and lets me get away with being simple with the top half. And, it transitions from cold-to-hot weather without much faff. I’ve worn it with a high neck polo to highlight my waist, but for summer a little t-shirt is all it needs.
